I have all these old vinyl LP's, that I want to burn to CDROM. The problem is that no LP is perfectly clean, and noise in the form of constant background noise coming from the recording/amplification system is added to the original signal before the data is saved on the hard-drive. There is also the nasty problem of clicks and pops resulting from scratches and dirt on the vinyl itself. Since background noise artifacts are added to the original signal, and tend to be in relatively low magnitude, and pops & clicks are small in duration with respect to the original signal, it is possible to estimate what the original signal was and make appropriate repairs in the digital realm.
